| We used to
think our forests and energy sources were unlimited,
and that the Earth was capable of cleaning and
renewing itself forever. Today, we recognize that
we have to act today in order to conserve our
resources for tomorrow. Recycling paper has become
one of our most effective tools for doing this.
And today's recycled papers allow us to help maintain
the environment without sacrificing quality or
economy. There are many reasons to choose recycled
papers: |
| The advantage
of paper is that it has many uses, is biodegradable
and recyclable. The use of recovered paper for new
paper products gives extended life to the wood fibre
by using it several times instead of just once.
|
| However,
the manufacture of new paper is only possible
if virgin fibres are continuously introduced into
the recycling process as the every time a fibre
is recycled, it looses some of its strength. After
being re-used about 6 times, it is no longer strong
enough for papermaking. |
Recycling conserves
forests, diverts wastepaper (a valuable fiber
resource) from landfills, and may save some of
the energy that is used to make virgin paper.
Recycled paper can be brightened with fewer chemicals
than virgin papers and recycled papers continue
to help the environment many times over, since
fibers can be recycled repeatedly. There are many
other ways that recycled paper benefits the environment.
|
| Recycled
papers meet the same technical specifications
as virgin papers. Many are acid-free for archival
longevity, and they successfully run on the most
demanding copiers, office machines and printing
presses. |
| Recycled papers are available in
everything from bright whites to a wide palette
of colors and surface treatments. Some recycled
graphic papers have specks added to the paper to
achieve custom visual effects. |
| Recycled
papers are now available in virtually every grade
at print shops, paper distributors, retail outlets
and online. |
Many government agencies and
business purchasers now require the use of recycled
papers in their printed materials.
